Dalm is a Mac app that does two jobs: dictation into any app you type in, and notes from every meeting — video calls, in-person conversations and phone calls on speaker. It never joins a call as a bot. Speech is recognised on this Mac and the audio is deleted the moment the text exists; the text itself is synced to our servers automatically, and after each meeting a third-party language model writes the summary from it. Dalm is in private beta. Pro will be $16 per month, or $12 per month billed annually. Paid plans are not open yet. These are the prices we plan to launch with. Requires an Apple Silicon Mac on macOS 15.0 or newer.

If you arrived here first, the home page has the longer version — what the app does, where the data goes, and how it compares with dictation apps and notetakers.

Three things that keep happening

A bot asks to join your client’s call before you do.

Half your conversations are never captured at all — the ones across the table and the ones on the phone.

The plan you already paid for gets trimmed after the fact.

How it works, in three steps

  1. Hold a key and say the sentence. The text lands in the field you were typing in.
  2. Start a meeting — a video call, a room, or a phone on speaker. Dalm takes the computer’s audio and joins nothing.
  3. After the call you get a document in the format that fits the conversation.

What happens to your data

Speech is recognised on this Mac and the audio is deleted the moment the text exists. Voice prints stay on the device. Transcripts, notes, documents and tags are synced to our servers automatically, and syncing cannot be switched off. After each meeting the transcript, your notes and the names you gave the voices go to a third-party language model, which writes the summary; documents and answers about a meeting go the same way when you ask for them. The audio is never sent.

Your dictations are visible only to you, even inside a team — not to its owner and not to a moderator.

Questions

Does Dalm join my meetings as a bot?
No. There is no participant to admit and nothing shows up in the attendee list. The app works from the audio your Mac already plays and hears, so a video call is captured without anything joining it. Nobody has to let software into the conversation, and the other side sees no third party — which also means it works on calls where you would never be allowed to bring one.
Does it work for in-person meetings and phone calls?
Yes, and they take the same path as a video call. A phone call on speaker and a conversation across the table both reach the microphone, and the app treats them the same way it treats a call — record, recognise, write it up. This is the half of your conversations that tools built around calendar invitations never capture at all, because there is no link for them to join.
What happens to the audio?
Speech is recognised on this Mac, and the audio file is deleted the moment the text exists. Voice prints stay on the device as well. What does travel is the text — transcripts, notes, documents and tags sync to our servers, and that is what your summaries and documents are built from.
Do I need an account, and can I turn syncing off?
An account is required, and syncing cannot be switched off. Without signing in there is no window and no dictation, so there is no signed-out mode to fall back on. The transcript goes to the server automatically and no setting stops it. Better to know that before you install than after. The audio never leaves the machine, and the voice prints and your settings stay on it whatever you do — but what syncs, syncs.
What do I need to run it?
A Mac with Apple Silicon, running macOS 15.0 or newer. On first launch the app downloads a speech model before it can transcribe anything: 461 MiB for the European-languages family, or between 140 MiB and 1.5 GiB for the family covering more languages, depending on your Mac. Another 22 MiB arrives with the first meeting you process. A download that breaks off resumes where it stopped.
What will it cost?
There is a free plan and it stays free. Pro is $16 per month, or $12 per month billed annually. Once you subscribe, your price and limits won't get worse for as long as your subscription keeps renewing. Every numeric limit is published with a date and a version rather than discovered by hitting it.
When do I get an invite?
Invites go out in waves rather than all at once, so the people who get in first get attention instead of a queue. There is no date to give you, and a date given now would be worth nothing. What decides your place is when you signed up and whether the work you do matches the segment being tested at that point. You get a message when your wave opens.
