Noty or Dalm: what each one hears, and where it turns into text

Published · Updated

Noty is a Chrome extension that writes notes from Google Meet, Zoom and anything else playing in a browser tab, with no bot in the call; Dalm is a Mac app that does the same with no bot either, for calls in any app, meetings in the room and dictation. They part at the step where sound becomes text. Noty’s privacy policy says the meeting audio is streamed to Google’s cloud speech service and discarded once it is transcribed. Dalm recognises speech on your Mac and sends no audio anywhere; the transcript then goes to our servers on its own, and a third-party language model reads it to write the summary.

Where Noty is better than Dalm

  • It lives in the browser. Noty is an extension for Chrome, the browser your call may already be open in. Dalm is an app for a Mac with Apple Silicon · macOS 15.0 or later, and its iPhone app is in development.
  • Text while people are still talking. Noty shows the transcript live as people speak and tells the speakers apart. Dalm shows a draft as it records, marked as preliminary, and the full transcript comes after.
  • Lectures, webinars and videos in a tab. Noty’s listing names YouTube videos, online lectures, webinars and any audio playing in the browser, not only calls. Dalm is built around meetings and dictation, and it also takes audio and video files you bring, up to four hours each.
  • Questions across meetings, and Google’s own tools. Noty answers questions from all your meetings, searches across them, and sends tasks to Google Tasks, Gmail, Google Keep and Docs. Dalm searches your meetings too, but answers questions about one meeting at a time; asking across all of them is in development, and the tool it connects to is Google Calendar.
  • A written line on training. Noty’s listing says transcripts are encrypted and never used for AI training. Dalm trains no models of its own; the summary is written by a third-party language model, and what the model provider does with the text is not set out on this site.
  • Less to pay. Noty Pro is $10 a month for each user, pay-as-you-go is $1 an hour, and its listing adds a free plan of 10 meetings a month. Dalm Pro is $16 a month, or $12 a month billed annually, and Team is $40 a month for each member (paid plans are not open yet).

Where Dalm is better than Noty

  • Speech turned into text on the Mac. Noty’s privacy policy says it streams the meeting audio to Google’s cloud speech service and discards it after processing, so it does not keep the audio either. Dalm recognises speech on your Mac, and no audio is sent anywhere. Text is what travels: each transcript goes to our servers automatically, and a third-party language model reads it to write the summary. What leaves your Mac, and when.
  • The room, the phone and the call app, not just the tab. Noty’s listing describes Google Meet, Zoom and sound playing in the browser; a meeting around a table is not described there. Dalm records the room or a phone on speaker through the Mac’s microphone, and any call app, keeping each voice apart; a suggested name becomes a name once you confirm it.
  • No hours to count. Noty Pro includes 100 hours a month, and the free plan in its listing counts meetings. No plan puts a limit on recording minutes, on the length of a recording, or on how long anything is kept.
  • A summary shaped by your notes. The notes you write during the call decide the shape of the summary, and each point carries the words it rests on. Every quote shows you where it was said — open it and the transcript opens at that place.
  • Dictation and meetings in one place. A key types what you say into any app on your Mac. Everything you say lands in one archive you can search: meetings, phone calls, conversations in the room, and what you dictate to a model. Asking one question across all of it is still in development.
  • A plain answer on cancelling. Noty’s terms say fees are non-refundable, and its privacy policy covers deleting your account, but neither says what happens to your meetings when a paid plan ends. When you cancel Dalm Pro, it keeps working to the end of the period you paid for, the free plan comes back, and everything recorded stays where it is.

Which one to pick, by the meetings you have

  • Google Meet in Chrome, on a computer that is not a Mac. Noty, which lives in the browser. Dalm needs a Mac with Apple Silicon · macOS 15.0 or later.
  • Lectures and webinars you watch in a tab. Noty, whose listing names them alongside calls.
  • A meeting at a table, or a client on speakerphone. Dalm, which records with the Mac’s microphone and keeps each voice apart. Noty’s pages do not describe meetings in the room.
  • Client calls whose audio should not pass through anyone’s cloud. Dalm: speech is recognised on your Mac and no audio is sent anywhere, while the transcript goes to our servers. With Noty the audio goes to Google’s speech service, even though it is not kept.
  • A month of long calls. Dalm, which counts no hours. Noty Pro includes 100 hours a month.

Questions

Is Dalm a good Noty AI alternative?
Dalm is a Noty AI alternative if you work on a Mac and your meetings happen in more places than a browser tab: it records calls in any app, meetings in the room and dictation, recognises the speech on the Mac and sends no audio anywhere. The text does leave: each transcript goes to our servers, and a third-party language model reads it for the summary. If your calls are Google Meet in Chrome, you want the transcript live, or price matters most, Noty is the stronger choice.
How much does Noty cost?
Noty Pro is $10 a month for each user and starts with a 7-day trial that needs no card, and pay-as-you-go is $1 an hour; its Chrome Web Store listing also describes a free plan of 10 meetings a month. Dalm Pro is $16 a month or $12 a month billed annually, Team is $40 a month for each member, and there is a free plan too. These are Noty's regular prices; the date is on this page.
Is Noty free?
Noty's pricing page offers a 7-day free trial of Pro, and its Chrome Web Store listing describes a free plan of 10 meetings a month; Pro includes 100 hours a month. Dalm's Free plan is a plan rather than a trial. No plan puts a limit on recording minutes, on the length of a recording, or on how long anything is kept.
Does Noty record my meeting audio?
Noty's privacy policy says it does not record or store meeting audio: the audio is streamed to Google's cloud speech service, turned into text there and discarded, and your notes are held in your account in the United States. Dalm recognises speech on your Mac and sends no audio anywhere; the audio is deleted once the text exists. The transcript syncs to our servers automatically.
Does Noty work for meetings in the room or in the Zoom app?
Noty's Chrome Web Store listing describes Google Meet and Zoom calls and any sound playing in Chrome; meetings in the room and desktop call apps are not described in its listing, home page or privacy policy. Dalm records whatever call your Mac plays, in an app or a tab, and meetings around a table through the Mac's microphone. It asks "Record this meeting?" when a call app takes the microphone or a Google Meet call from your calendar begins; otherwise you start it with ⌃⌥M.
What happens to my Noty notes if I cancel?
Noty's terms say paid fees are non-refundable except where the law requires, and its privacy policy says your conversation data stays in your account while it is active and is removed within 30 days of deleting the account; neither says what happens to your meetings when a paid plan ends. When you cancel Dalm Pro, it keeps working to the end of the period you paid for, the free plan comes back, and everything recorded stays where it is.
